Leap of Faith

Leap of Faith

My favorite Indiana Jones movie is the third one in the franchise, Indian Jones and the Last Crusade. I think it is my favorite because of Sean Connery’s portrayal of Indy’s father, Professor Henry Jones. For me, Connery plays this character perfectly, so against type for his earlier role as James Bond. The interplay between Indiana, played by Harrison Ford, and Connery is wonderful. They have definitely set the hook for me for pure entertainment.

Recently, I remembered the scene where Indy, trying to locate the Holy Grail, the cup Jesus used for the last supper, has to take a leap of faith.

In the movie, Indy has his usual clues and the usual need to perform certain actions no matter what in order to be successful in his quest. The leap of faith test comes when he is looking at an entrance to a cavern across a wide chasm. The little voice in his head is telling him he needs to believe in order to take the leap of faith, but his eyes only see the chasm.

Without too much hesitation, Indy steps into the chasm only to find that the chasm is an illusion. Or at least there is a bridge over the chasm which is easy to see once the illusion of empty space is revealed.

Remembering this scene makes me wonder what illusions I am still holding onto because I trust my 3D senses more than I trust my inner knowingness. I am not sure I am yet trusting enough to step into the chasm of Indian Jones and the Last Crusade but maybe I am willing to trust my guidance more and more about what truly must be in my highest good even when the 3D illusion is implying that it isn’t.

I am adding “faith” and “leap of faith” to my resonances and asking to be open to knowing when it is time to take the leap of faith and when it is time to still be grounded in the five senses I am experiencing in this Illusion of the third dimensional world. We are at an interesting crossroad in human evolution. Some actions are still experienced in the illusion, but we can ask what we are to infer from the information regardless of what the illusion implies. The power still resides with us, not the illusion. The more we believe this, the more we will become comfortable with the leap of faith. And the more the leap of faith will simply be faith. No leaping required.
