The Dance of Letting Go: Finding the Right Steps

Are you trying to let go of something but don’t seem to find the right steps to get there? Many people get inspired at this time of year to set new intentions and make new commitments but it’s equally important to create a space for those new creations by letting go of the old. I tend to prefer an all-at-once style to letting go, which can be perfectly appropriate at times. But I’ve recently been hearing from my soul that right now is a time for the slow-and-steady-wins-the-race approach. It’s not that one is better than the other, just that it’s important to listen to our divine guidance as to which is the best match for our energy.

Through this process, I’ve discovered that my one-and-done style only partly comes from a willingness to move forward. Sometimes my lower self just wants to skip certain steps of letting go that seem more painful or scary. They aren’t inherently more painful but seem daunting because I’m resistant to allowing the true change within myself necessary to moving forward. I’d rather just hop like the hare to the finish line! But I’m being reminded that there is so much rich learning and opportunities for healing in the actual process of letting go that it only serves my lower-self ego to give in to that urge for a quick fix. Plus, I’m making more lasting progress by going slowly and steadily rather than trying to hopscotch forward only to boomerang back. So, I’m focusing on the beauty of taking deliberate, tortoise-style steps and honoring that they are perfect for me right now.

Take a moment to ask your soul whether you’re currently trying to apply a rabbit-quick approach to something that needs more time or whether you’re dragging your turtle feet through something when you could just be jumping along. If you’re feeling stuck or off-balance in your evolution, it might just be a mis-matched approach. We all have the capacity for an infinite range of energies within us; we just get tangled up sometimes by defaulting to our comfort zones. Change it up this season by trying some new dance steps on your path forward and see where that new dance takes you!
